Library Resources for Active Learning

There are many challenges with engaging students actively in both synchronous and asynchronous environments. To support TUS staff to address some of these challenges, Dr Michael F. Ryan, with contributions from colleagues, developed the Compendium of Active Learning: strategies for student engagement (2021). This publication provides an exploratory framework to support staff and institutions to implement and embed active learning in their everyday teaching practice. This video describes the 'active learning method', as a method whereby students participate, collaborate with others, and apply concepts to the real world. To understand how active learning is applied in classrooms, the video references the teachings of Professor Carl Wieman, a Nobel Prize winning physicist and a leading proponent of the method.
