Research Metrics

Scholarly output defines the total count of research outputs, to represent productivity.

Outputs of the following types are included in Scholarly Outputs (where present in the source database):

• Journal publications
• Book series
• Stand-alone books (including edited volumes, monographs, text books and reference works)
• Digital or visual media
• Exhibitions
• Performances
• Reports
• Software.

The following types are excluded from Scholarly Outputs:

• Theses
• Patents

Scholarly Output metrics are useful to benchmark productivity where researchers are from similar fields or disciplines and with similar career lengths. 

• Scopus
• SciVal
• Web of Science
• Google Scholar My Citations

Connect to Scopus

When you get to the main Scopus search screen:

1. Click the Author Search tab (instead of the default Document search)
2. Enter surname and first initial in the labelled boxes
3. Enter "Limerick Institute of Technology" into the Affiliation box
4. Press Search
5. Click the profile name that you are searching.
6. The number of outputs listed in Scopus is displayed here:
7. Check the date range for your outputs listed.

Connect to SciVal (if you haven't already, you will need to set up an account with an email and password).

1. Click on the Overview module
2. Click on Researchers and Groups
3. If not done so already, add yourself as a researcher by Defining a New Researcher
4. Click the radio button next to your name
5. Select your date and/or subject range
6. The number of outputs listed in SciVal is dispalyed here:

Open Google Scholar

1. Search for the name you wish to view
2. If a user profile exists for this person, it will display at the top of the results list

3. Click on this link, and the profile will be displayed.
4. Sort by year (click the Year column heading) and scroll through the pages to get the total number of publications and date range.
