TUS Midwest Library Essentials

Online Resources

Available 24/7 wherever you are.
You can access a wide range of online resources (such as eBooks, eJournals and databases) through the library Discover! search at https://library.lit.ie

All you need is the Internet access, device and your  TUS username and password.

Your TUS username is your full email address, and your password is the same one used to access your TUS email account.

Library Spaces - Where can I study?

All TUS Midwest library sites (Moylish, Clare St., Thurles and Clonmel) have study areas available.

The main provision is for individual study but there is also good provision for group or silent study.
Silent Study — Please be considerate of your fellow students when studying in the library.
Group Study Rooms (Moylish & Thurles Library) — Groups can book a study room for periods of 2 hours at a time.

How to renew your books

  1. Visit libsearch.lit.ie
  2. Login to your account
  3. Enter your  TUS username and password
  4. Select the titles you wish to renew
  5. You can renew items unless they have been requested by another user.

How to request books

If the book you need has already been borrowed, the catalogue will display when a copy of that book is due for return, use the PLACE HOLD option to reserve the first available copy.

 

Log in to your account  (with your TUS username and password) and place a hold.

You will receive an email from us when the book is ready for collection.

Write it Right

Referencing, citation, avoiding plagiarism.
Approved by Academic Council in 2011 and authored by senior members of library staff and involving the LIT Quality Office these are the official referencing guidelines for the Institute and they provide guidance and support in an area that can often prove daunting for learners.
The Library offers training in referencing, citation and plagiarism.
Contact the library issue desk for further information.

Finding Books

How to find books:
Search library catalogue at libsearch.lit.ie
You can search for a book by title, author, keyword, subject and more.
When you have found the book you need, make a note of the shelf-mark so you can easily locate it on the shelves.
Check the status. If the book is Available it will be on the shelf.

Borrowing and loan periods

Borrowing

  • Undergraduate – 7 items
  • Postgraduate – 9 items
  • Staff – 12 items

Loan periods

  • Main stack – 2 weeks (Postgraduate – 3 weeks, Staff – 4 weeks)
  • Short loan – 3 days
  • Reserve loan – 2 hours

Information and Research skills training

The Library training programme runs each term and is designed to support you in finding and using library resources effectively. Sessions include:

  • Library resources for getting started with your thesis,
  • Discover!, eBooks & library databases,
  • Harvard Referencing workshop, and many more.

Workshops run on a regular basis.

You can use any of our libraries:

  • Moylish Library, Limerick City
  • LSAD Library, Limerick City
  • Thurles Campus Library, Co. Tipperary
  • Clonmel Campus Library, Co. Tipperary

Wi-fi (eduroam)

    Connect to the eduroam network using your mobile device or laptop with your TUS email and password. You will find instructions and details on Student/Staff portal.

Copy & Print

You will need TUS network account to print and photocopy.
You can top up your account online - please find details on the Student/Staff portal.

PCs

All TUS Libraries have PCs available. These PCs are networked and give you access to the internet, library electronic resources and Microsoft packages e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
