Searching for Research

Using various search engines to find scholarly information

What about Google Scholar?

Google Scholar (scholar.google.com/) is a freely accessible web search engine that indexes a selection of scholarly literature across a number of disciplines.

Google Scholar provides a simple and convenient platform for broadly searching for academic or scholarly papers. It is an especially useful tool for tracking down specific articles when you know the title. It is also good for finding up-to-date materials that might not yet be published, for example, conference papers.

Our advice - don't rely solely on Google Scholar when you are searching for research. It can be very patchy in its coverage. Google Scholar is best used in conjunction with Discover! and the library database resources.
