Critically evaluating journal papers

The ABCs of critical thinking!

Accuracy

  • Information is often presented in the form of facts, figures and findings
    • Do the authors tell you where they got these facts?
      • Their own research findings - are the research methods outlined?
      • Other publications - they’ll need to be cited!
  • Is the information supported by evidence?

Check your paper!

  • Does the article include an explanation of its research methods?
  • Does it include a reference list or bibliography?
